Biography

Our Subject

Mary CANFIELD [1], reportedly a daughter of Hezekiah Graham CANFIELD and Mary "Polly" ROWLEY, was probably born between 1810 and 1815 [2],[3], probably in the State of New York [4], and died at an unknown age.

It is unknown at this time if Mary married or had any children.

Census Appearances

NOTE: the following census listings are presumptive. When other children of Hezekiah's are factored, about whom we have more information, the only individual not accounted for in these census listings match the following, and probably represent Mary.

1820 census of Manchester Township, Dearborn County, Indiana: a free white female under the age of 10 in Hezekiah Graham Canfield's household. [2]

1830 census of Ripley County, Indiana: a free white female under the age of 10 in Hezekiah Graham Canfield's household. [3]

Research Notes

In 1810, her father Hezekiah was enumerated in the 1810 census of Steuben County, New York[5]. In 1812, he was enrolled as a soldier in the New York Militia [1], implying a residence in New York. He reportedly remained in New York State until he removed to Indiana in 1819[1]. Hence, a child born between 1810 and 1815 was most likely born in New York State.

NOTE I avoid using on-line trees, such as those at ancestry, familysearch, my heritage, etc, as actual sources. They are more often incorrect than not, sometimes hilariously so. However, I will often use them as a "starting point" or as a source of hints for where to look next. Johnson-66920 20:37, 8 August 2018 (UTC)
