Biography

John was a Friend (Quaker)
New Garden MM (Guilford NC);
Lost Creek MM (New Market, Jefferson TN);
Springfield MM (Wayne County IN)
John Canaday, b 5 Apr 1741 (n.s.), son of Charles Canaday and Phebe Beals. [1] Monocacy Quakers who lived in Monocacy River Valley, Prince George's, Maryland. It is likely, then, that John was born in Prince George's, although some believe his birthplace was Virginia.
  • No original birth record has been located for John (Monocacy meeting records were destroyed by fire in 1757).
  • Monocacy MM was under the authority of Hopewell (VA) MM and later Fairfax (VA) MM, leading to lack of clarity for lay researchers re: residence and birth location.
His father died bef. 1746, his mother remarried soon after to Robert Sumner of Virginia. The family removed to Guilford, North Carolina where John married Margaret Thornburgh in 1764.[2] Together they had several children. [3] They removed from North Carolina during the American Quaker Migration, first to Tennessee (early 1800s), then settling in Indiana before 1830.
Died: 2 Mar 1830, Economy, Indiana

Can we possibly agree that he was born in Prince George, Maryland with a note in the profile that he may have been born in Virginia? I think that would be a great compromise to get the profiles merged
This is the same person as Canaday -158.

The Canady Family article is subtitled GUESSWORK at the early line of Canadays...

To resolve the birth location conflict in the unmerged match see "The Canaday Family" by Bill Putnam. It confirms that the birthplace was Prince George's County, MD http://www.billputman.com/Charlescanaday.pdf
Cannaday-40 and Canaday-158 appear to represent the same person because: same spouse
