Biography

Jemima Campbell, Marchioness Grey was born on 9 October 1723[1] (or 10 October 1722) in Copenhagen, Denmark, the second child of John Campbell, Lord Glenorchy, later third earl of Breadalbane and Holland, who at that time was British envoy to the Danish court, and his wife Lady Amabel Grey.[2]

She married Philip Yorke, 2nd Earl of Hardwicke, son of Philip Yorke, 1st Earl of Hardwicke and Margaret Cocks, on 22 May 1740 in Brompton at the lodgings of her grandfather, the Duke of Kent.[3] She died 10 January 1797 at age 73[4] in St. James' Square, Middlesex, leaving two daughters.[3]

She succeeded to the title of 4th Baroness Lucas of Crudwell, co. Wilts [E., 1663] on 9 October 1723.3 From 22 May 1740, her married name became Yorke. She succeeded to the title of 2nd Marchioness Grey [G.B., 1740] on 5 June 1740. As a result of her marriage, Jemima Campbell, Marchioness Grey was styled as Countess of Hardwicke on 6 March 1764. On her death, the Marquessate of Grey became extinct.[4]

Yorke-201 and Campbell-12056 appear to represent the same person because: Same daughter. Campbell is the correct LNAB. I updated Yorke-201 to meet euroaristo naming standards.
