Biography

Catherine Watson Cairns (married name Barber) was born around 1876 in Glasgow, Scotland, the daughter of Minra Struthers and Peter Waters Cairns.[1]

Catherine, 6, emigrated to Australia with extended family on the Shenir in 1883.[2]

She married Norman Charles Barber in 1903 in Victoria.[3] Their children were:[4]

Norman died in 1935.[4]

Catherine died in 1968 in Camberwell, Victoria, aged 92 years.[1]

    The death is announced of Dr. Norman Charles Barber, of Alphlngton. He was the son of the late Mr. G. P. Barber, who was one of the early squatters of the Western district, and a grandson of the late Mr. Thomas Napier. one of the pioneers of Melbourne, who bought land in Collins-street at the first land sale. Dr. Barber leaves a widow and two sons Mr. Ken Barber, of Apsley, and Mr. Colin Barber, and twin daughters, Hilary and Eleanor. The funeral will be at Warrnambool.
