John was born in 1924. He was the son of Percy Cain and Agnes McKinnon.
John served in WW2 as V160745 Private, 4th Corangamite Light Horse Regiment (VMR), enlisting on 6 Oct 1941. The VMR post-nominal referred back to the Regiment’s origin as G and H Companies of the Victorian Mounted Rifles, 1885-1903.
The 4th Corangamite Light Horse became the 4th Motor Regiment (Corangamite Light Horse), in March 1942. John was called up for Full Time Duty on 30 March 1942 and posted to 1st Motor Ambulance Company until 23 Sep 1942. Qualified for the War Medal 1939-1945 & Australia Service Medal 1939-1945.
John married Mavis Baugh of Casterton. They lived at “The Green Lagoon” on the Glenelg Highway during the 1950s, and at “The Woolshed”, Strathdownie, from 1962 to about 1970. Afterwards they lived in Reginald Street, Mount Gambier.
John passed away in 1992. He was buried in Mount Gambier∘
