Biography

The son of Josephus Butler and his second wife, Sarah Ann (Caperton) Butler, Elvin Butler was born in Civil District 11 of Wayne County, Tennessee^{[citation needed]} in 1904, residing with his family by 1910 in Wayne County's Civil District 8.^[1][2]

Elvin married Ella Mae Franklin (1908-1945), the daughter of Harvey Snow Franklin and Rosa Belle Lee, marrying in Wayne County, Tennessee on April 4, 1922^[3] They made their home together in Wayne County's Civil District 8 where, in 1930, Elvin owned and operated a stock farm, employing others.^[4] In 1940, residing together with his family in Wayne County's 1st Civil District, Elvin worked at a sawmill.^[5]

Widowed in 1945 after his wife's death from heart failure at the age of 37,^[6] Elvin remarried the next year, marrying Sarah Bonnie Lay (1908-1991), the daughter of Joseph Carroll Lay and Mary Catherine Matney, in Alabama City, Alabama on June 29, 1946,^[7] taking up residence together in Waynesboro, Tennessee. In 1950, Elvin worked at a retail hardware store.^[8]

Elvin Butler passed away in Wayne County, Tennessee^{[citation needed]} at the age of 100^[9] and is buried at Shields Cemetery in Waynesboro.^[10]
