In the 1860 census Samuel (age 70) was in Beat 10, Barbour, Alabama, United States.[2]
Research Notes
Not to be confused with the Samuel Butler married to Eliza Melton from Fluvanna, VA. That Samuel had a family and died in VA before the 1850 census, this one had children in South Carolina and Alabama, and lived through to the 1870 census. His place of birth isn't clear from the records that exist--probably but not definitely South Carolina.
