Max was born in 1878 in Byhalia, Mississippi. He passed away in 1951.
Lynn Butler was born January 25, 1876, in Butlerville, Arkansas. In 1900, Lynn age 23, was working as a music teacher with his sister Vida. He was still living at home with his parents in Madison Township, Grant, Arkansas. Lynn met Dora Belle Wiest in Hot Springs, Arkansas while she was vacationing with her sister Ida. Lynn and Dora wed around 1908. By 1910 they were living in Bayou Macon Township, Chicot County, Arkansas. Lynn and Dora had one child, Delores Lynn born in 1909. They lived on Boeuf River Road and Lynn was a sawyer in a lumber mill. Then on December 31, 1914 Maxine Juanita Butler was born in Askew, Panola, Mississippi. Tragically on June 22, 1917 Dora Belle hung herself in the family home at the young age of 29. The Wiest family felt that they should raise the girls so Lynn relinquished his duties as a single parent. Maxine was raised by her Aunt Ida and Uncle Bill Williamson in Stella Washington where they had a lumber business. Delores was raised by her Aunt Alice and Uncle Art in Multnomah, Oregon. September 12, 1918 in the County of Multnomah, Oregon, Lynn Butler filled out a WWI draft card. He was living in Grapevine, Arkansaw and was probably visiting his daughters. In 1920 Lynn Butler, age 44 had remarried Bea Morris who was 24. The couple had a daughter Peggy who was 9 months old at the time. Lynn had a sawmill that he operated on the property. They were living in Madison, Tennessee with Bea’s parents Wiley W. Morris, his wife Mary, and their other children. In 1930 Lynn and Beatrice were living in Noxubee, Mississippi. He was the proprietor of Hickory Mill which was located near first street. There was a man by the name of James Butler of Georgia who had a plantation called Hickory Hill. The fact that Lynn used the name may be a hint for his great grandfather name. Lynn’s granddaughter Chapet D Reed (6 months old) was living with them. Chapet was the daughter of Delores. A few houses away were Harvey Masey and his family. Harvey was the head sawyer at Hickory Mill. Silas Wilson, age 56 was a filer at Lynn’s Mill and Carl Gossien, age 22, also worked at the mill. Maxine and Dick made a trip across country before the war to visit Maxine’s Father Lynn. Dick remembers that the house on the farm was not very fancy and there were quite a few small dwellings on the property where the hired help, mainly black families lived and worked the land. Lynn passed away May 3, 1951. He is buried next to Beatrice in the Grapevine Cemetery in Arkansas.
