Biography

  • Fact: Burial Saint Gabriel Cemetery, Fulda, Murray County, Minnesota, USA

Obit

Josepha was born in Luechtenbrun, Austria. She came to the vicinity of Heron Lake with other members of the family in 1880. In 1881 she was married at Avoca to Frank Ramert and they established their home on a farm 5 1/2 miles northeast of Fulda. It is interesting to know that the homestead rights to the Ramert farm were signed by President Grover Cleveland, and that the paper is still in the possession of the family.

Josepha's life history is that of other pioneer women who brought stability to farm families as their children grew up doing not only the housework, but often lending a hand in the outdoor tasks about the farm, especially with the garden and poultry.

In the fall of 1912 Frank & Josepha retired from the farm to a home they built on the outskirts of Fulda, now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Breen. After selling the place they moved to Alberta, AL, where they lived for about four years. They returned to Fulda and a short time later bought the house in the west part of town where Joseph lived until her death.

Josepha has been in failing health for several years due to the infirmities of age. She was taken seriously ill between Christmas and New Year, her last visit away from home being on Christmas Day when she was at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, William E. & Leona Ramert, for dinner. Since that time she has steadily failed and members of the family have been with her constantly to assist in her care. Josepha was a member of St. Mary's Guild, of St. Gabriel's Church, and has been a member of the Altar Society for about 30 years. In tribute to her memory the members attended the funeral service in body.

Frank & Josepha were the parents of Frank, Emil, John, William, Fred, Clarence, Emanuel, Eda (Louie) Ella, Mary (Edward) Appel, Anna (Frank H.) Haberman, Wilhelmina (John) Puhl, and Gunda Juhl-Hough.

Funeral services were held from St. Gabriel's Church, Rev. Father Meyer officiating.
