Biography

Allen was born in 1786 in Ashe County, North Carolina to John Pleasant Burton and Susannah Stamper.^[1]

Allen married Sylvia Reeves about 1809.^[2] They had the following children:

In the 1820 census, Allen was living in Ashe, North Carolina, United States. His household included himself (free white male age 26-44), his wife, presumably Sylvia, (free white female age 26-44) and six children: two males and three females under 10 and one female age 10-15).^[3]

Allen moved his family to Indiana before 1830. In the 1830 census, Allen was living in Lawrence, Indiana. His household include himself and his wife Sylvia and ten children.^[4]

In the 1840 census, Allen, with his wife and seven of their children, was living in Lawrence, Indiana. His son Anderson was recorded has head of an adjacent household.^[5]

In the 1850 census, Allen (age 64), Farmer, with his wife Sylvia and four of their children, was living in Marion, Lawrence, Indiana, United States.^[6]

Allen died on 1 March 1861 in Lawrence County, Indiana and was buried in Burton Cemetery, Mitchell, Lawrence County, Indiana, United States.^[1]
