Garrett Wayman Burton. Sr. was born on August 7, 1918 in Mound Bayou, Bolivar, Mississippi, United States, son of James J. Burton and Virginia Johnson (1892–1971).

On January 1, 1920, Garrett, aged 1, was the son of James J Burton in Beat 3, Bolivar, Mississippi.[1]

On April 2, 1930, Garrett, aged 11, was the son of James J Burton in Beat 3, Bolivar, Mississippi.[2]

On April 1, 1940, Garnett, aged 21, was the single son of J J Burton in Beat 3, Bolivar, Mississippi.[3]

Garrett enlisted in the United States Army on January 17, 1941 in Camp Shelby, Mississippi.[4]

Garrett was single on the 1940 census. Sometime between then and the 1950 census, Garrett married Beatrice Beckom (see note on spelling). In 1950 Beatrice and the children appear on the census with his mother. Beatrice is listed as separated.[5]

Garrett died (age 66) on December 6, 1984 in Chicago, Cook, Illinois.[6]

He was buried in Hearon Cemetery, Mound Bayou, Bolivar County, Mississippi.[7]
