Biography

Stephen and his son William were the lighthousekeepers for the lighthouse on Old Perlican Island until 1931 when the light was changed from kerosine to gas thus eliminating the need for the light keeper to live on the island. In 1936 the dwelling was demolished.

Stephen could not support his family during the hard times in Newfoundland and had to leave the colony leaving his son with his mother and his step-daughter with his late wife's sister Ann and brother-in-law Aaron Strong.
