Lloyd Burns was born in 1877. His parents were Nathaniel Freeman Burns (1858–1926) and Elmira "Ellie" Alveretta Bruch (1857–1950). He was baptized on 27 December 1878 at the Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church in McEwensville, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.[1] In 1880, his family was living in Turbot Township, near the small town of Milton, Northumberland, Pennsylvania.[2]
He married Alice Florence Smith (1878-1978) on 16 March 1898 in the Lutheran Church, Milton, Northumberland County, Pennsyvlania.[3] Their children included:
In 1910, he, Alice and their first daughter were living next door to his parents on Lincoln Street in Milton. Lloyd was working as a boiler maker in a car shop.[4]
In 1918, when he registered for the World War One draft, he was working as a foreman in a car foundry. He was listed as blind in his right eye.[5]
By 1920 they had moved to St. Anthony Street in Lewisburg, Union County. He was now working as a repairman for a "round house" - a workplace consisting of a circular building for repairing locomotives.[6]
In 1930 with four children, they were living just outside of Lewisburg on Furnace Road in East Buffalo Township, Union County. He was now a welder at the round house.[7]
In 1940 they were living in Linntown, East Buffalo Township. he was working as a boiler maker again.[8]
In 1943 he retired after 25 years working for the Reading Railroad Company in Milton.[9]
In March 1948 Lloyd and Alice celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.[10]
Five months later, Lloyd passed away at age 70 in August 1948.[11] He was buried in Lewisburg Cemetery, Lewisburg, Union County, Pennsylvania.[12]
