Biography

Miles Burns was born 24 May 1784, the son of John Arthur Burns and his wife, Nancy Ann Walker.[1] He was probably born in Rowan County, North Carolina, as his father died in Haywood (actually Buncombe) County, North Carolina in 1805. In 1784, his father probably lived in the part of Rowan County that later became Buncombe County, and still later became Haywood County.[2]

Miles was married about 1810 to Susan Biffle. They were the parents of the following:

  8. James Love

On 23 Jan 1821, Miles Burnes, John Burnes and Robert H. Akins, assignees of John Hayes, who held warrant No. 1178 for military services performed to the state of North Carolina dated 5 Sep 1784, entered 640 acres by No. 436 surveyed 23 Jan 1821, in the 8th District in Maury County, Tennessee, on both sides of the east fork of Cathy's Creek, in the 3rd and 4th ranges, 4th sections (?) and bounded . . . west boundary line of the 3rd range north of the southwest corner of the 4th section . . . a beech marked JB, Jacob Biffles and Samuel W. Akins corner . . . John Akins west boundary . . . John G. Websters line . . . Biffles and Akins southeast corner . . . 14 Jun 1821 recorded, State of Tennessee No. 15453[6]

Miles Burns died after 26 Sep 1836, the date he wrote his will. His will was probated in Hardeman County, Tennessee, and mentioned land in Marshall County, Mississippi to be kept together until his last child was of age.[3][4] As he did not mention a wife in his will, she probably predeceased him.[7]
