Susannah was born about 1761 to Israel Burnley and Hannah Terrell. She may have had at least 8 siblings: Joel Terrell, Nancy Ann, Henry, Richmond Elizabeth, Frances, Stephen Willis, and Anne Terrell.
She married John Barksdale, son of Collier Barksdale and Sarah Randolph, in 1778 in Bedford County, Virginia. She may have been about 17 years old. They had at least 8 children together:
Property tax digests indicate that John and Susan may have moved from their plantation in Virginia to Wilkes County, Georgia about 1791-1792. In 1793, their land was included in Warren County, Georgia.
Family history records indicate that she may have passed away in 1803 in Warren County, Georgia. There was a malaria outbreak and it is said that several family members were lost to the illness. She would have been about 40 years old. It is not known where she is buried. The book, Genealogy of part of the Barksdale family of America by Sarah Donelson Hubert, refers to their burial location as "the place now owned by the widow of Jeff Barksdale," their grandson.
