Ada was born in 1911.[1] She was baptised on 24th November 1913 at St Stephen, Bristol, Gloucestershire, England the daughter of Albert Burman and Ada Breach.[2]
Between 1937 and 1946 she was a registered sister (nursing) living at St Boniface, Down Road, Portishead, Somerset.[3][4][5]
Between 1958 and 1962 she Superintending Sister for the Royal Navy.[6]
In 1962 she became a Principal Matron for the Royal Navy.[7]
On the 13 June 1964 she was Member of the Royal Red Cross, First Class, Queen Alexander's Royal Naval Nursing Service.[8] She appears in Her Majesty's 1964 birthday honours list as Principal matron.[9]
She passed away in 1996.[10]
Miss Burman personally cared for the Queen Mother, included in the items sold at auction (her medals and memorabilia) was a personal letter addressed and signed in ink from Osborne House thanking Sister Burman for her care in the RN hospital Chatham, together with a hand written note from Sir Anthony Eden when serving in Malta. Miss Burman was engaged to a Commander Surgeon in Malta during the War. He was killed and she then devoted her life to nursing, Earl Mountbatten attended her retirement party.
