Biography

Willie Burkinshaw was born in Yorkshire, England.

Willie was born on 20 February 1902^{[1] [2]} in Scissett and lived with his family on Crown Terrace, behind the Crown public house^[3][4]. He started work as an apprentice engineer at Beanlands Mill, Scissett and played football on the wing for Scissett ^[4][5].

He married Annie Senior in 1929^[6] and they had a son, Stuart. During the 1930's he was a lorry driver^[1]for a Mr Bedford of Scissett. Willie later returned to engineering, working for W. C. Holmes (later becoming part of Holset) of Huddersfield from approx 1940 until his retirement in approx 1971. He then worked part-time at Samuel Kayes, tea and coffee merchant, at Plantation House in Dundas St. Huddersfield^[4].

He was very good at maintaining and repairing vehicles. In his youth he had a Norton motorbike and his last car was a 1962 Wolseley 1500 which he had for many years^[4].

He was proud of his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Willie Burkinshaw passed away on 21 December 1976, aged 74, from pneumonia^[7].
