John Henry Bunt was born in August 1885 in Sutton Forest, New South Wales (Australia). He was the second son of William Bunt and Harriett Ditton.[1] He was christened in All Saints Church of England, Sutton Forest.
John married Honor Clarke in 1911 in Robertson, New South Wales. [2] They had three children:
On 29th March 1942, with the Second World War ominously close to Australia's shores, John – then aged 56 years – enlisted in the Australian Army's Volunteer Defence Corps. He was posted to the 13th Battalion, based in the Southern Highlands, with his younger son, Eli. The war over, and won, he was discharged on 15th September 1945. [3] Having served at least three years, he was awarded the Australia Service Medal 1939-1945.
Aged 76 years and having been widowed for fourteen years, John passed away on 4th October 1961 and is buried in Bowral Cemetery beside Honor. [4][5]
