Biography
Walter Charles Bunt was born on 3rd May 1886 in Sutton Forest, New South Wales (Australia). He was the eldest child and son of Levi Bunt and Hannah Pope. [1]
Walter married Bessie Smith on 28th December 1914 in St Paul's Church of England, Burwood, New South Wales. [2] Bessie, was a sister of Walter's younger brother Levi's wife, Jessie.
Bessie and Walter raised a family of nine children: John Stanley (1915-77), Walter Alexander (1917-73), Robert Bowring (1919-89), Allan Edward (1920-92), Peter Bertram (1922-82), Archibald Colin (1925-95), Marie (1926-), Leah (1928-), and Janet (1930-). Why the three girls were only given single names whereas each boy received two names is not known. The eldest five of the six boys served in the Australian Army during the Second World War, all returning home.
Walter passed away (during that terrible war) on 6th May 1944 in Bankstown, New South Wales; three days after turning 58 years of age. [3] Walter has left as a legacy of his life of service to his community a street name in the sub-division of his property: Bunt Avenue, Greenacre. [4]
