Biography

Commissary Sergeant Benjamin Bullard served in the United States Civil War.

Benjamin was born in 1823 in Ascott Canada to Calvin Bullard and Hannah Griffin. Benjamin married Mary C. Boies on 12 Jan 1852 in Medina, Ohio. His occupation is listed as a House Painter. Benjamin enlisted in Company K, 103rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry on 2 Aug 1862. He was promoted to Commissary Sergeant on 8 Sep 1862. Reduced to ranks in Company K 1 Mar 1863. Muster out date of 3 Jun 1865 in New York is given in the U.S., Civil War Soldier Records and Profiles, 1861-1865. Find A Grave has his death at 1895 and the profile states "He deserted July 17, 1863 at Danville, KY. He was apprehended and tried at a general court martial and found guilty. He offered no defense. The court martial record shows that he was sentenced to one year at hard labor and fined $10 per month for one year and loss of pay while absent."[1] He passed away in 1911.
