In 1862, grew the first Sugar-Cane in Queensland.
John Buhot was born at Barbados in 1831, the son of John Buhot and Elizabeth Walcott.
John Buhot married Jessie Crane at London, England in 1861.[1]

That same month, John made a small amount of Sugar at the Brisbane Botanical Gardens.
He later worked with Louis Hope at Ormiston House Estate in 1862.
The Queensland Government was desperate for income, and trade of any kind was often recklessly encouraged. The government supported the setting-up of vast sugar plantations following the introduction of the 1864 Sugar and Coffee Act.
John Buhot passed away at Brisbane in 1881.[2]
