Biography

Johann Melchior Brumbach was born 26 Feb 1719 in Müsen, Nassau-Siegen, and chr 5 Mar 1719. He married Maria Catherina (born Feldtmann), widow of Johannes Larsbach at Krombach, 25 September 1744. They had a son, Johannes, born 19 Dec 1745 in Litphen, and chr 26 Dec 1745 in Krombach.

Melchior evidently migrated to America, arriving at Philadelphia on 22 Sep 1752 aboard the Halifax (Strassburger 1934, p 482). He is identified in the Brumbach genealogy as the husband of Anna Julianna Kemper (1708–1760) and father of Rev. Johann Heinrich Brumbach (1739–1799) (Brumbaugh 1913, p 259), but Juliana married his brother Johannes according to Family Search. Johannes died in 1744. And it is possible she and her children went to Pennsylvania with Melchior and his family. Melchior disappeared without a trace after his arrival in Philadelphia (Brumbaugh).
