Janet Bruce was born about 1827 and was baptised in Watten, Caithness, on 10 January 1828.[1]
In 1841 Janet is recorded on the Scotland Census as living in Munsary, in the civil parish of Watten, Caithness, with her parents and siblings Alexander, Margaret, Catherine and John. No trade was stated on the census return.[2]
In 1851 Janet was recorded on the Scotland Census as living with her mother in Munsary, in the parish of Watten, on the family farm, alongside her brother David and maternal aunt Margaret Henderson. Janet's trade was "house servant".[3]
