Micajah was both a farmer and a teacher. For many years he was also a justice of the peace and a member of the County Court, and at the time of his death was the presiding justice of the County Court. On 12 September 1801 he married Sarah Brown, daughter of Judge James Brown of Bourbon County, Kentucky.[2] Sarah and Micajah had 9 children:
