yDNA results link the descendants of Daniel Brown and John Brown and family Bible records indicate that John's father's name was 'John.' Some believe, however, that his name might have been 'Daniel.'
Autosomal DNA results link descendants of John Brown to Daniel Brown and Elizabeth Coleman.
There is a John C Brown who married an Elizabeth Atkins in Prince Edward County. Evidence seems to indicate that this is a different couple entirely who later migrated to South Carolina. [6]
John's son Daniel married Penelope Collins in 1809. An Armistead Brown married a Peggy Collins in 1792.[7] Might be of interest to learn the identities of the two.
The wife of son John Dunlap Brown, Lucy Doggett, had two brothers who married /BROWN/ women. There are DNA matches with at least one of these (Ann) but it is not clear if the DNA was inherited from the /DOGGETT/ line or the /BROWN/ line.
John married, Elizabeth, the daughter of Daniel Brown and Elizabeth Coleman.[8] Family records indicate that he had seven sons and five daughter. Perhaps some of these were deceased when the will was written in 1774 with the following children listed:
Sons
John (other sources have conflicting spousal data)
Daniel (other sources have conflicting spousal data)l
Coleman
Thomas (other sources say he married Susan Powell)
William (other sources say married Miss Vaughn)
Richard
Daughters:
Elizabeth (married Dickerson)
Ann
Mary

  2. Until 1752, England was using the Old Style calendar that was based on the Julian calendar except that the year started on the 25th of March. As the patent was in June, change in the day the year starts is of no consequence but 11 days need to be added to convert to the New Style (Gregorian) calendar, thus 22 Jun 1749 Old Style becomes 3 Jul 1749

The John Brown who married the Elizabeth Brown who was a daughter of Daniel Brown and Elizabeth Coleman was a member of DNA Group 10….as was Daniel Brown (John and Elizabeth were cousins). The Y DNA donors mentioned herein are in DNA Group 192, as I recall….so no match here.

The John C. Brown in Prince Edward Co., VA (PECo) who married Elizabeth Atkins fathered a son named Joseph, and Joseph fathered a son named Littleberry G. Brown, per two deeds of trust. The Y DNA of this line is not known. The John Brown in Culpeper Co., VA who married his cousin Elizabeth Brown was a member of DNA Group 10. Some internet information has confused/intermixed these two unrelated men. The John Brown in PECo who moved to NC (with sons Bedford and Jethro) was another man who was in DNA Group 69.

The Henry Brown in Essex Co., VA of DNA Group 10 and his wife Keziah Jones had a son named John Brown, and per the process of elimination, it is very likely that he was the John Brown of Group 10 who married Elizabeth Brown….albeit no proof. All members of DNA Group 10 appear to descend from the Francis Brown who died in Essex Co., VA in 1691/1692.
