According to his WWI draft board registration card, he was hard of hearing. [2]His older brother Willie was completely deaf, so there may have been a common cause.
He married Martha Elizabeth "Lizzie" Robinson shortly before the 1900 census was taken[3]. Together they had eight children:
He died in 1967 in Charlotte[17] and is buried in Cherryville City Cemetery.[18]
Research Notes
His death certificate[17] and his tombstone both give his birth year as 1875, but his draft board registration gives his birth year of 1874. Unfortunately the page of the family bible that give his date of birth is torn and doesn't have the last digit of the year.
