1856: A Farmer and Cattle Dealer in Kilness, Parish of Holywood, Dumfriesshire.

1862: Died aged 51 in Kilness, Parish of Holywood. Death registered by George Muir, Father-in-Law.

Holywood Church & Graveyard: [4909] "Erected by Thomas Brown In Memory of Jean Brown his daughter, who died at Kilness, Holywood, 16th November 1858 aged 5 years and 2 months Also the above Thomas Brown, who died 27th October 1862 aged 52 years Also Thomasina Elizabeth his daughter, who died 9th November 1867 aged 4 years and 11 months And Elizabeth Muir, wife of the above James *[Thomas] Brown, and latterly wife of James Derby, who died at Clouden Mill 10th day of January 1882 aged 55 years Also Helen Armstrong, wife of John Brown, late of Kilness, who died 1st October 1903 aged 54 years"
