Biography

John Brown was recorded in the 1841 census as age 13, probable son of John Brown and Grace Bowman whose baptism was recorded in Ochiltree on 03 February 1828.^[1]

He married Janet Thom on 17 November 1848 in Ochiltree.^[2][3]

John married Ann Hood on the 3rd of September 1856 in Kilmarnock He was a widower at the time of his marriage. His first wife Janet having passed away in 1851. His occupation on the marriage record was a joiner. His parents were recorded as John Brown a weaver and Grace Bowman. ^[4]

In the 1871 census John (age 43), Collary Manager, was the head of household in Newarthill, Bothwell, Lanarkshire.^[5]

In the 1881 census John (age 53), Colliery Manager, was the head of household on Cleland Road, Bothwell, Lanarkshire.^[6]
