Biography
Gerald was born in 1881. He is the son of John Brown and Mary Eland. [1]
In 1894 he was admitted to Bedford Modern School in Bedfordshire which gave his date of birth as 16 Jun 1881.[2]
In the 1901 census Gerald (age 19) was a chemist's apprentice, the boarder of Sarah Harker in Kingston upon Hull, Holy Trinity, Yorkshire, England.[3]
Gerald was a freemason of the Himalayan Brotherhood Lodge in Simla, Punjab, India, listed as a chemist.[4]
He married Mary Blanche Woods (née Jefferies) on 2 May 1908 in Simla-Calcutta, West Bengal, India.[5][6] They had several children in Simla, India; a daughter Barbara Mary in about 1911,[7] a son, John Vivian, in 1913,[8] and a daughter Elizabeth Dorothy in 1915.[9][10] Blanche died on 18 Mar 1930.[11]
In 1946 Gerald was awarded an MBE, possibly for his services as secretary of the District Grand Lodge of the Punjab, Freemasons' Hall, Lahore, Punjab.[12]
Gerald was an incoming passenger to Southampton on the ship Asturias, arriving on 17 Jun 1948. His place of residence was listed as Pakistan, and his proposed address in England was that of his father: 34 Grovehill Road, Tunbridge Wells.[13]
Gerald's death (age 85) was registered in the Jan-Feb-Mar quarter of 1967 in the Tonbridge district.[14]
