Obituary. — In another column will be found a notice of BENJAMIN LAFAYETTE BROWN, formerly of this city. He was a son of the late LORENZO BROWN and a brother of HARRY F. BROWN, of this city, who is now the sole survivor of the family. The Inyo Independent has the following obituary.
”Another of the early settlers of this Valley has passed away. He leaves a wife and two young children to mourn his loss.
Mr. Brown was born in Batavia, N. Y., in 1824, and while yet a minor removed to Wisconsin, in which State he resided until the breaking out of the war in 1861, during which he was attached to the Federal army in the Southwest, in the capacity of sutler. At the close of the war he, in company with Mr. V. Beaudry, came to this valley in 1866, since which time he has been a continuous resident of this county.
”There were few men who were more generally known throughout Inyo than the subject of this notice. Possessed of sterling qualities of honesty and integrity, he commanded the respect of all — a respect which increased instead of becoming diminished upon acquaintance.
”All those who have known him intimately in his life time — now that he has left us — will join in the wish: Rest in peace old friend. M.”

“Green Bay Weekly Gazette”, (Green Bay, Wisconsin), 13 Nov 1880, page 3
