Hello Stephen. I notice that you have been working on profiles of people born before 1700. As a source you are referring to information found on My Heritage. That doesn't really tell the reader very much, My Heritage is a big site with both records and family trees produced by members. For this period wiki tree asks for references to records or good secondary sources. Although there are no locations filled in, I suspect this family came from England and that some at least may be duplicates. Compare https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Venables-146 with https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/De_V%C3%89nables-86. I haven't suggested a merge but I certainly think that you should compare the two pedigrees.

There are guidelines on creating pre 1700 profiles here https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Pre-1700_Profiles The England project also has a guide to reliable sources for this period. Helen Ford

HI Helen

Thank you they are currently part of my tree that I'm looking into. I thought it was odd when I tried to add them and there was no suggestions to similar names. I only used that reference because nothingness came up and I was coming back to look into it further this evening.

I notice that the other profile doesn't have the special character fo the e, I will change that and merge as I find the correct people.

I will re look at the guidelines in due cause as well.

Stephen

Thanks for your quick reply. I think the capitalised E with the acute accent is an affectation: in French, until fairly recently capitals never had an accent.

These references may help. Visitation Cheshire, 1580 pp 170, 227ff (there are very many Venables if you search).https://archive.org/details/visitationofches00glov/page/227/mode/1up?q=venables

Heres a reputable bio of a son of Sir John Massey and katherine Venables https://www.historyofparliamentonline.org/volume/1558-1603/member/massey-william-1515-79 The references to the article may help you find other sources. Helen

Hi Stephen,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working with members of the projects which coordinate them is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus. Review the project pages for special guidelines and to learn how to collaborate with the project members.

Let me know if you have trouble finding projects which fit your focus. Click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page. Natalie ~ Pre-1700 Greeter

Hello Stephen!

You've been a member for a while so I thought I would check in to see how it's going. Have the How-Tos been helpful or left you with questions? Most of us have questions after all that information!

I want to help! Click my name, send me a private message or ask in the comment section of my page. Sometimes links don't work in emails. If that's happened to you, check the public comments on your profile. The links will work from there.

Cindy ~ WikiTree Messenger

PS To find reliable sources for your profiles, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research and scroll down near the bottom of that list and select Research with RootsSearch. There are over 20 websites to access from there.

Hi Stephen!

May I suggest amending your tags so you have one tag for each name you are researching and the location?

If you create separate tags for your surnames, the tags become clickable links to pages of others who want to collaborate about that surname. With the surnames combined in a tag, that isn't possible. This link may help you Tags FAQ

Your Wiki Genealogy Feed will show the activity connected to the surnames and places relating to your tags.

Thanks,

Cheryl ~ WikiTree Greeter

Sometimes links don't work in emails. If that's happened to you, check the public comments on your profile as the links will work from there.
