Biography

Peter was born in 1821. He passed away in 1897.[1]

Peter Brosius, Deceased.[2]

Peter Brosius, one of the old citizens of Clover township, Jefferson county, died at his home there on Wednesday of last week, October 20, 1897, after an illness which confined him to his home only a few days, although his health had been failing for a couple of years, and for several months he had been going down rapidly. His funeral occurred on Friday, the 29d instant, and was attended by eight hundred relatives, neighbors and friends, giving unmistakable evidence of the high esteem in which he was held by all who knew him.

Mr. Brosius was born in Northumberland county, Pa., on the 9th of November, 1821, so that he lacked just 20 days of being 76 years of age at his death. In the spring of 1835 he came with his parents to Jefferson county, when the family settled in Beaver township, on the old Brosius farm, near the present village of Pleasantville.

He was married in 1843, and for fourteen years after lived in Rose township, near Belleview, when he moved onto the farm where he died, living there forty years.

In 1840 he united with the Lutheran church, continuing in its membership until 1858, when he joined the Methodist Episco- pal church, where he remained until his death, living a consistent christian life.

He leaves a wife and twelve children, all of whom were present when he died, and at his funeral. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. S. Gearhart, of Summerville, a former pastor of the Mt. Pleas- ant M. E. congregation, of which deceased was a member.
