Biography
Gerrit was possibly born in October 1706. Considering that Gerrit witnesses the baptism of two children of Gryttie Broers, it is very likely that he is her brother. More research needed to confirm this date, it is quite early considering other life events.
In 1742, he marries Nieske Johannes and becomes stepfather of several children of Niske and Popke Joannis. Mentioned in 1742 are Willem (20), Simke (16), Sieuk(13), Hille (11) and Jouke (10) Popkes. [1] In 1744, he lives in Oosthem, as he is mentioned in the Volkstelling.[2] In 1749, he is mentioned as a gemeene boer (common farmer) in Oosthem.[3] In 1754 he is mentioned in the will of his wife Nieske. Stepson Jouke is mentioned as an orphan. From 1759 to 1771, he and his second wife Ulk Sybrens baptise 6 children in Blauwhuis. At 5 of the 6, Oosthem is mentioned as place of birth.
