Mr. G. J. Bricknell, 60 Victoria street, Ulverstone, has been advised by the Minister for the Army, that his son, Pte, W. T. Brieknell, has been reported a prisoner of war.
In early 1944, he was declared as missing, presumed dead.

Relatives of the following soldiers, who were prisoners of war in Japanese hands, have received advice that they are now reported missing and are believed to have lost their lives:
Cpl. W. Arnold, Java, brother of Mrs. E. L. Dolbey, West Ulverstone, and son of the late Mrs. A. Arnold, West Ulverstone.
Pte. W. T. Bricknell, only son of Mr. and Mrs. G. Bricknell, Victoria st., Ulverstone.
Pte. D. A. King, formerly of Wilmot, brother of Pte. Stan King, Brighton.
Dvr. Allan J. Geason, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. T. Geason, Deloraine.
Pte. Victor Ling, son of Mrs. F. Ling, of Railton.
However, later that month it was confirmed that he had died as the result of the torpedoing of a Japanese transport near Nagasaki in June, 1944.
