Biography
Catherine, known as Kate, is the daughter of John Brew and Bridget Moran. [1]
Catherine Brew was living in 1854 at the time her father wrote his Will.
She married ? Matthew Sherwin. A daughter Mary Elizabeth was born at Collingwood in 1871. [2]
They emigrated to New Zealand between 1871 and 1877 and settled in Canterbury. Three daughters were born in New Zealand, Lucy Margaret in 1877 [3] Ellen in 1880. [4] and Kathleen in 1890. [5]
Four sons are known to have been born, Harold, Charles, John and G A Sherwin as per Matthew Sherwin's Obituary in 1921 They weren't found in NZ or Australian records perhaps due to the spelling of the surname.
In 1921, Catherine was widowed when Matthew passed away aged 81/82.
Catherine Kate Sherwin died in 1923 at the home of her son in law W Johnston of New Brighton. [6]
Catherine was 75 at the time of her death. [7] She is buried at Bromley Cemetery. [8]
