Biography

Thomas Brassey, father in-law to Francis Worley, Sr. was one on the 12 Freemen who helped William Penn plan the new colony while they were still in England.  Thomas came to the New World in 1682 with the same group of people with whom the Pusey and Worley had come. He was the head of the planning committee and was called a first purchaser of 5,000 acres of land.; Thomas along with Franics helped plan the city of Philadelphia.

"Thomas BRASSEY immigrated in 1680 to Chester Co, Pennsylvania. Thomas Brasey, a man of integrity and means, came from England to Chester Co, PA in 1680 aboard the ship "Welcome." Thomas Brassey purchased from William Penn 5000 acres of land. He owned 200 acres in 1690 in Chester, Delaware Co, Pennsylvania. He signed a will on 11 Jul 1690 in Chester, Delaware Co, Pennsylvania. He signed a will in the presence of Caleb Pusey and Walter Fausat dated 11th day of the 7th month in 1690. He wrote: "Being by the visitation of the Lord Sick of Body... All my estate to my two Daughters, Rebecca Brassie & Mary Brassie." "Rebecca Brassie shall receive the first fourty pounds out of my estate." "Above fourty pounds may be accounted into the shares." Executors Guardians of daughter Mary Brace. "Item --- I give towards the building of a meeting house in Chester for the people of God called Quakers to meet in, three pounds." He died about Jul 1690 in Chester, Delaware Co, Pennsylvania. Thomas Brassey died leaving two daughters: Rebecca married Thomas Thompson Mary married Francis Worley He had his estate probated on 18 Sep 1690 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Proved by Executors John Symcock, Randall Vernon and John Bristow. (Francis Rawle, Deputy Registrar). He was born in <England>. Thomas BRASSEY and Ann SCOTT were married. Two daughters were born to them, Rebecca and Mary Brassey."[1]

The narrative makes no mention of parents. What is the source for the Rhode Island parents? I find no evidence of a senior Thomas Brassey in Rhode Island. And the supposed mother was a Rhode Island girl but married someone else.
