William Woodward Brandon was an American Democratic politician who was the 37th governor of Alabama from 1923 to 1927.
Acting Governor Lieutenant Governor Charles McDowell became acting governor when Gov. Brandon spent 21 days in New York City chairing the state delegation to the 1924 Democratic Convention. According to the 1901 Constitution, if the governor is out of the state more than 20 days, the lieutenant governor becomes acting governor.
