Alpha served in the military earning the rank of Sp5, in the United States Army, and served in Vietnam.

Alpha O. Boyd, age 48 years, passed away August 31,1996 in Broward County, Florida.^[2] His obituary, with photograph, was published in the Tallahassee Democrat newspaper on Saturday, September 7, on page 16.^[3] He is buried in the DeSoto Field Cemetery in Tallahassee. A militaryt gravestone marks his burial site.^{[4] [5]}
