Biography

John Larkin Box, was the son of Stephen and Elizabeth A Kirk Box. He was listed in the 1870 census of Maury County TN in the household of Elizabeth Box, a widow, age 39, as John L., age 8, along with his sister Victoria, age 10.

In the 1880 census of Maury County TN he is listed as J.L. Box age 18, a farmer in the household of his Mother E.A.Box, along with his sister V.C.Box age 20.

In the 1900 census of Violet Hill, Izard County, AR, John Larkin Box was listed as head of household, age 39, along with his wife Ida, age 32 and 5 sons and Sara Stevens, his cousin, age 54.

Larkin Box, aged 75 died at his home at Violet Hill late Tuesday afternoon, September 29th, after an illness of some three months. Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Misses Mattie and Otta Box and Mrs Clive Hames and four sons, Sam, Jerry, John and Inman Box. All children live at Violet Hill. Mr Box has lived at Violet Hill 38 years and was one of the county's best citizens. Burial was at the Violet Hill Cemetery Wednesday afternoon.
