Biography

Thaddeus Bowman was born on September, 2, 1712, in Lexington, Middlesex, Massachusetts ^[1], the son of Joseph Bowman and Phebe Barnard. He married Sarah Loring on December 2, 1736, in Lexington ^[2] 100^[3]. They had 7 children:

Thaddeus was a Lexington Minuteman of Captain Parker's Company of Militia at the Battle of Lexington and Concord,, the first battle of the American Revolution, "Captain Thaddeus Bowman was the mounted scout who brought the report to Captain Parker on the morning of April 19, 1775 that the column of the King’s troops was actually already within the town limits and approaching rapidly." ^[6] Thaddeus passed away on May 26, 1806, in New Braintree, Worcester, Massachusetts ^[7]. Thaddeus Bowman the elder Bowman and a brother fought at Lexington as two of the village's 48 minutemen and as ensign of the 3rd Massachusetts Regiment of the Continental Line guarded the spy Major John André awaiting his execution in 1780, walking him to the gallows.^[8][9]

• Thaddeus Bowman is listed as one of my 6th gr grandfathers. The name "Bowman" shows up later in my direct Adams line: Newell Bowman Adams named his son Bowman Newell Adams.
