Benjamin was born in 1808. He was the son of Benjamin Bowman and Elizabeth Shideler. He married Mary Martha Bell in 1831. Benjamin and Mary had 11 children. Several of them died young. The children are: Bethany Bowman 1829–1831, Aaron Bowman 1831–1916, Thomas Bowman 1836–1840, Margaret Bowman 1838–1903, Elizabeth Bowman 1840–1905, Ruth Jane Bowman 1842–1922, Solomon Bowman 1846–1917, David Bowman 1848–, Martha A Bowman Ulrich Teeter twin 1852–1923, Mary E Bowman twin 1853–, Nancy Bowman 1860–1861. Mary passed away in January of 1860. Benjamin married Rachel Barnhart (1821-1888) in 1863, and helped him raise his children. Benjamin passed away on 11 Mar 1888. On 23 Jul 1888, Rachel passed away.
He passed away in 1888.
The History of the Church of the Brethren in Indiana lists the son of Benjamin, Jr as a D W Bowman.
