Biography

Rory E. Bowers is the son of Bobby E. Bowers and Barbara J. Bowers. Born at Paradise Valley Hospital in National City, California 21 May 1954.[1] I am the first generation post depression born in California. My father moved to Santa Barbara California with his parents in 1942 from Bokoshe, Leflore County, Oklahoma. My Grandfather, Elmer L. Bowers, worked in the quick silver mine in Santa Barbara and my Grandmother, Elizabeth (HAMILTON) Bowers worked as a waitress in a local diner. The family did not stay long in Santa Barbara and moved to San Diego, California where my Great Grandmother and Great Grandfather, Willie Dee Bowers and Katie (SMITH) Bowers were living. Katie and Willie had found work at Rohr Aircraft and prospects for their son and daughter in law were very good. Elmer and Elizabeth moved to Palm City in the South Bay area of San Diego in the late 1940's. They built a house there and sold it. They moved to Imperial Beach and built another home on Palm Avenue which was later renamed Coronado Avenue. My father attended Emory Elementary School in Imperial Beach, San Diego County California and graduated from Brown Field High School where classes were being taught in aircraft hangers until the new Mar Vista High School could be completed. My father met my mother, Barbara Jean BAKER at Chula Vista High School[2] located at Brown Field on the Otay Mesa in San Diego and following their graduation they married 2 February 1952 at Saint Joseph Lutheran Church in Imperial Beach, California. I was born in 1954 and my sister Denise Lynn Bowers was born in 1956 at Chula Vista Memorial Hospital in San Diego County California.[3] I attended elementary school in Imperial Beach; Saint Joseph Lutheran School, Emory Elementary School, and Oneonta Elementary School. The Big Move. My father was doing very well, he had worked at Rohr Aircraft and at Convair Aircraft.[4] He found out that Lockheed Aircraft in Los Angeles was paying more and the prospect was too good to pass up.[5]

Hi Rory,

How are you? I'm David a WikiTree Mentor.

I just wanted to check in and see how things are going. I understand you recently had a problem. usually when working on a important profile I back up my biography and sources section to a word document just in case of a glitch or a problem. Then later I just delete the back up if I will not need it again.

Do you have any questions I can answer?
