John Bowen was interred in California.

John was born 30 Jul 1840 [1][2][3]in New Florence, Pennsylvania.[3]

John was a Civil War veteran. He served for the Union as a Private in Company G, 9th Regiment, Pennsylvania Reserve Infantry (38th Volunteers) (also called Company G, 38th Regiment – 9th Reserve).[4] John was recruited in Pittsburg and mustered in to on 4 May 1861 for 3 years. He mustered out with the company on 12 May 1864. [5]

John enlisted on 4 May 1861 and saw 3 years of active duty with the Army of the Potomac at Bull Run, Gettysburg, Battle of the Wilderness and other important battles. He received an honorable discharge on 12 May 1864.[3]

On 1 Nov 1864 John married Lizzie McCullough of Latrobe, Pennsylvania. He worked for the Kansas Pacific Railroad. In 1886 failing health motivated him to move to a milder climate, and that year he moved to Pasadena, California.[3]

John was a member of Pasadena, California’s John F. Godfrey Post of the G.A.R.

He passed away on 30 Jul 1918[1] or 31 Jul 1918[3] or 1 Aug 1918.[2] John was buried in Mountain View Cemetery and Mausoleum in Altadena, California.[1][3]
