Jacques BOWDOIN was born 1674 La Rochelle, France and died 16 Apr 1717 Virginia. He followed in the steps of his father and was a mariner. He probably sailed with his father when he sailed to rescue French prisoners from the English, for which he was brought before the courts. They worked together until about 1698, when he and his younger brother James set out for Virginia.
He resided in Northampton County, Virginia where he registered as a mariner. He owned 2 ships, "The Mary of Boston" and "Northampton." His brother James returned to Boston, Massachusetts but John remained and married in Northampton, Virginia to Suzanna Stokley d.1706.
Jacques established himself and owned a Plantation, called "Bowdoin Hungers Plantation" in Hungers Parish, where the family remained until his death in 1717. The house later burnt to the ground.
In his last Will he left his son John 875 acres of land, which later passed to his eldest son Peter, who sold it in 1739. [1]
