Biography

"Alexander Boughner (1784-1857) was the son of Matthias Boughner UEL. He never lived in Five Stakes but he had some connection with the community. He married Gertrude (Getta) Glover and they lived in Windham (Norfolk)until, in 1815, they acquired land on the Talbot Road in Malahide Township, near Aylmer, where they settled and raised nine children.^[1]

Alexander and Gertrude were involved in the patenting of Lot 46 West at Five Stakes. Although Colonel Talbot had given the ticket to this lot to John Boughner, Alexander's older brother, it was Gertrude who patented the lot in 1828. John had already used his entitlement to free land as the son of a Loyalist, but apparently, Gertrude Glover Boughner, the daughter of Loyalist Jacob Glover of Windham, had not used her entitlement. So the lot was patented in her name and she immediately transferred it to John, her brother-in-law."^[2]

Note: The information below is from FindAGrave (included in original bio) - this seems to contradict the bio above. On Canadian Headstones website, his father's name is Mathias Johann Boughner.^[3]
