Biography

William Bottley or Botley was born in about 1818 at Grendon Underwood in Buckinghamshire ^[1].

In 1851 William Botley was probably the man of that name living at Grendon Underwood with his brother Daniel and Daniel's wife Rebecca. His age was given as 30, implying a birth date in 1820 or 1821. His birthplace was given as Grendon, Buckinghamshire. He was a farm labourer ^[2].

In 1861 William Botley, a unmarried man, was living in Backway in Bicester in Oxfordshire as a lodger in the household of Caroline Nelson, a widow, and her children. His age was given as 42, implying a birth date in 1818 or 1819. His birthplace was given as Grendon under Wood, Buckinghamshire. He was an agricultural labourer ^[1].

William Thomas Bottley Nelson (who was called William Botley in the 1871 and later censuses) was born later in 1861 ^[3].

William Botley and Caroline Nelson were married in 1863 ^[4].

William and Caroline had another son, Henry, born in 1864 ^[5].

William Botley died in 1866 at the age of 47 ^[6].
