Biography

Eleanor, wife of Thomas de Multon, had property in Boston. She and Thomas had at least two sons, Thomas and Alan.[1]

Eleanor probably died before October 1199. Their son Thomas succeeded his father by 1201.[1]

Research Notes

Her parents are not known.[1] While she may have been "of" Boston, neither Richardson nor Cokayne give her maiden name.

Born in Boston, Lincolnshire about 1160 (in text; 1152 in datafield as of 12 July 2024).[citation needed]

Based on son Thomas being of age by 1201 and "abroad in the King's service by 1202",[1] c1160 is reasonable (son born c1180). His first marriage to Sarah de Fleet was, according to Cokayne, "possibly circa 1190". He married (2) Ada de Morville by 10 March 1217/18.[1] Considering the first marriage c1190 could have been a contract date, c1180 is still reasonable. However, Lambert was the son of Thomas and Sarah Fleet, and a negotiator in 1216 for his father's ransom,[2] so likely Lambert was born before 1195. His father could have been born c1180 (15 at Lambert's birth), but more likely he would have been 21-25, so born c1170-1174.
The WikiTree profile for Thomas and Eleanor's son Thomas has a birth year of about 1165 (as of 12 July 2024), making her birth in 1152 a bit young (but not impossible). The c1165 birth year also explains the marriage year of 1164 given in her husband's profile.

Married in Multon, Spalding, Lincolnshire in 1182 (in text; about 1164 in Thomas's profile as of 12 July 2024).[citation needed]

"Among their children was Thomas who was born in about 1165"[citation needed] - also from Thomas's profile as of 12 July 2024.
Richardson says that Thomas and Eleanor had only one son, Thomas.[2] Cokayne, in their son Thomas's writeup, mentions his brother Alan, so Thomas and Eleanor also had a son named Alan.[1]

Eleanor may have been a widow when she died in 1199 - Cokayne says she probably died before October 1199.[1] Richardson says that Thomas succeeded his father in 1198,[2] but Cokayne says "by 1201".[1]

Eleanor's death location - given as Moulton, Lincolnshire in the datafield as of 13 July 2024[citation needed] - is not given in either Richardson or Cokayne.[2][1]
