Biography

Children of Henrik Henrix and Femme:

1. Cimon (Symon). He is the only child that can be fairly positively identified as theirs. There may have been more. Since the family was Mennonite we may never have proof as to who their children were. There’s a small possibility that Symon was born to Hendrik Jans Bos and Geesien Tijssen instead, but names and dates suggest Henrik Henrix and Femme Simons being his parents.

There is no record that says Femme was the daughter of Simon Kruis. Here’s how I arrived at this conclusion: Symon would most likely have been named after one of his grandfathers, being the oldest son. There were very few men named Simen in Giethoorn at this time: there was a Simen Bakker and a Simen Kruis, and one with no surname. Simen Kruis makes the most sense of them since he had relatives who also had daughters named Femme (therefore it must be a Kruis family name).

The marriages by the civil authorities started being recorded in 1694. It's likely that all the non-church weddings were of Mennonites, mostly from the North church. They usually listed the surnames of the men, but not of the women. This makes it very hard to determine which women belong where. The Mennonites only started to keep records of baptisms in 1730, and then only sparsely until about 1770.^[1]
