Michael was born in 1894.[1] The son of Henry Borger and Esther Cassin. In 1916 he enlisted in the Australian Imperial Forces at Holsworthy, New South Wales. [2] Michael reached the rank of Corporal through field action in France with the 12th Australian Machine Gun Corps.[3] Sadly, 2 days after receiving his commission he was killed during the Third Battle of Ypres (Passchendaele) on the 26th September 1917. His final resting place is Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, West Flanders, Belgium. [4][5] He was 23 years old.
