Richard Borden was born in 1722. He was the son of Thomas Borden and Mary (Gifford) Borden. He inherited an estate from his father which had been owned by his grandfather and foresaw the future development of the water power of Fall River.

He married Hope Cook on March 12, 1747. Together, they were the parents of six children.

During the Revolutionary War, British troops burned his saw mill, together with a great deal of manufactured lumber, owned by his sons, who were operating the mill, Mr. Borden was carried away a prisoner by the raiders, who also burned his home. During the American Revolution, he also provided Civil Service as a Selectman & Moderator in 1775, MA.^[2]

Richard Borden died on July 4, 1795. He was buried in the North Burial Ground (Plot #132) in Fall River, Bristol, Massachusetts, United States.
